Detect missing OSM objects by detecting changes on satellite photos
Aleksandra Kudriashova & Rustem Feyzkhanov
In many cities, the OSM layer is incomplete and/or outdated. Maps Actually has taken it upon itself to address this issue and is using open source data to detect new buildings that are not labeled with OSM. We analyze a series of fresh satellite images and detect areas which look like buildings in a city. We then overlay these suspected areas with an OSM building layer and find buildings that are not labeled with OSM. As a result, this information becomes useful for city authorities and local businesses. In addition, companies like Google Maps and 2GIS can use this layer to keep their databases up-to-date.
